I've been wanting to check out The Bite for a long time, but never seem to be in River Market during their business hours. The hubby and I took a ride on the streetcar over to River Market on a weekday and there they were with their open sign on, like a shining beacon of sandwich goodness! The hubby ordered the Boss Hog sans jalape. Both sandwiches were messy, gloppy and amazingly flavorful. Now that I've eaten here, I'm going to have to figure out how to get a fix every now and again. I've seen numerous friends, who aren't YELP members, post in the last week the sandwiches they were eating here on Facebook and I had to come down and try one for myself. The pickles tasted like something my grandmother had jarred herself! I can't wait to try some of the other sandwiches. This is going to be a place I intentionally take out of town guests to go when they are visiting! The Bite does Kansas City proud! Added bonus, you get to sit and watch all the River Market action while enjoying good company and a good sandwich. Sweet corn tamale + short ribs + fried egg. You won't be disappointed. Our group agreed the tamales were awesome.
The one sandwich at the table was disappointing. Don't waste your time, get a tamale. THANK YOU GROUPON for helping me discover this fantastic spot. I stopped by The Bite for lunch with a girlfriend a few weeks ago, and am so glad we did! We took advantage of the $1. Groupon offer, and loaded up on amazing food. I got the 'Fresh Off The Boat' sandwich and we split the Patatas Bravas and Brussels Sprouts sides. All of the food was fantastic, and I definitely wish I would have stopped in sooner. Being in the heart the River Market, they have some outdoor seating on the covered patio. Ideal spot to snag some affordable eats. A hot and muggy stop at the Farmers market for lunch. This place seems to specialize in sandwiches, but oddly offers a very abbreviated Mexican food menu as well. I ordered the Bay of Pigs sandwich, which included pulled pork, prosciutto, spicy pickles, Gouda cheese and a mustard/mayo mixture. I only ate half of the sandwich and pulled off a decent amount of the bread. There was a ton of meat and filling on this, so it's nice they are not stingy with the ingredients. Overall though, I felt this was a pretty average run of the mill sandwich, and I couldn't figure out why the reviews for this place are as high as they are. I also felt it was a bit pricey for what you get. Great little sandwich shop at the Kansas City River Market! It is a great mixture of Mexican and American flavors. I got the Senior Cheng sandwich which was awesome, it was recommended by a friend and it was spot on! Even though we ate here for lunch in a Saturday (the busiest time at the river market) we had a small line, got our food within 5- 1. The flavor combinations of their sandwiches were spot on, and we have already made plans to go back! Delicious. Kind and quick service. Great color and presentation. Really enjoyed it : )Yeah, okay. It's one of those places I would go to on occasion when I want a $9 sandwich in the river market. I have lived down town now for nearly 3 years and this was the first time visiting this establishment. It's pretty no- frills as far as ambiance. They don't have the widest selection of chips or drinks but their menu is pretty stellar. The bread is baked fresh and the ingredients are local. That, to me, makes up for the higher price tag. If I wanted to impress someone with the finest of KC sandwich making in a sit- down sort of way, I'd probably go someplace else. But for what it is, The Bite is pretty darn good. The sandwich I had was so good. The meat was so meaty and tender, I didn't know what to expect but the best way to explain it is that it's an asian/hispanic fusion. I had a sandwich and the chitcharons, both were good! I came here with a couple coworkers to try out for lunch on a Thursday after 1. I had the Farmer's Salad. It was the kind of salad that does not make you regret not getting a sandwich. It was flavorful with feta, spicy with Siracha sauce, savory with a fried egg, and radishes that balanced it out. Two others in my party had sandwiches and they were both pleased. What a great place and so reasonably priced. It reminded me of a place that will soon be listed as one of the greats in Kansas City! I come to the bite EVERY TIME I go to Kansas City. The menu is versatile and unique! While I've tried and love almost the entire menu, I dream of the sloppy and el mo mo sandwiches. I love that they have both vegetarian and meat options that are equally delicious! Oh and the Brussels sprouts will bring a tear to your eye! And the ice cream sandwiches are delicious too! Stop by and enjoy people watching as people pass by in the river market! The bite: thank you for your exceptional and innovative food! Now please expand to Nebraska so I can enjoy you more often! LOVE this place! Fantastic menu, great service, great location. The food is so full of flavor, the restaurant has a ton of great personality, and the staff were so charming and friendly. The best place for quick, delicious food. It was so delicious and generous portions. The sweet corn tamale was topped with mole sauce and served with a side of sesame slaw. I'm not a vegetarian by any means so I added the chicken carnitas, but it would be great just by itself. I love tamales, the sweet corn had a lot of flavor almost like a corn bread. The potatoes were tossed with kimchi and had just the right spice. I had a lot left over and they made a perfect breakfast the next morning. Highly recommend this place for lunch. Saw a few other people getting sandwiches and Pozole. I will be back! We made our way here via Groupon and were not disappointed! I'm just bummed we hadn't found this place sooner- it's in the City Market area and both I and my partner live and work downtown! The Bite is on the northern side of the City Market lot. It looks divey, but certainly not dirty. There is plenty of outside seating, so we took advantage of that on a nice May day. We followed the recommendation of the cook (it's an . They are full sandwiches, cut in halves, so we each traded a half for a half so we could each try both. Senor Changs was my personal favorite . Amazing flavors, quite a bit of kick (I refilled our water cups at the cooler multiple times), and good bread to soak up all those good flavors. My partner ate his half of the Senor Changs, but also polished off his Bay of Pigs. I can't speak too much to his experience, save for the fact that his . They have a cooler filled with Mexican cokes, Pina Fanta, and Jarritos (Guava, Grapefruit, Grape)- and with the $2. Groupon, we paid $2 over for 2 sandwiches and 2 sodas. Sometimes it's hard to know, at first visit, if an establishment with so many different ingredients and flavors can truly pull it all off. I have a lot of trust in The Bite, now, and their ability to make all these flavors work- so I'll be back, excited to try other sandwiches! A very solid sandwich spot. The first time I had the top sandwich on the menu (can't remember what it's called), today I had the alambre. The bread was warm and had a nice crunch. The meat was rich in flavor. I added Korean BBQ sauce because I really love that kind of thing. I also tried the maduros. They were warm and sweet. They tasted good with the cheese. The man who works there is really welcoming. I'll be back for sure. Gotta try more of the sandwiches and one of their ice cream cookie sandwiches. Matt and Adam both have great - and divergent- reviews of the Bite. One gives it 2 stars, the other 4. I think they're both right. I'm glad to have the Bite here. They have a compelling menu with a lot of options for omnivores and vegetarians alike. It's great to have them at the Rivermarket, and I do hope they continue to succeed. These are good sandwiches. I like the vibe, the people, and I really appreciate what they are trying to do. But when I have gone here, I haven't felt like I'm getting a good value. And that dampens the experience. Because wow does that menu look good. I want to try so many things. But at $6 for a plain tamale (extra for meat), it discourages exploration to an extent. Fortunately, it seems they may be adjusting their prices - the Se. Others may have a different experience, but for me I'll be trying other things on the menu. Perhaps even a fancy $8 tamale. First time in Kansas City and wanted some BBQ in the downtown area. Great little sandwich shop with some unique sandwiches. I had the Blue Crab cake sandwich and my husband had the short rib sandwich with Jalape! Field trip to RM for a bite- at the bite; )- and to try out kc streetcar- -- awesome foray from the 'burbs! Love that they offer 4 creative meatless options. We split one of their spinach & black bean tamales as well, sans the mole. The tamale wasn't super flavourful, definitely needed some sauce or a bite of the yummy kimchi that came with; don't get me wrong we ate it all. Bottom line, we look forward to visiting again! Mmmaybe we'll even try something different: ).
